What is Coaching?

There are many ways to define coaching and there are many different types of coaches out there in the world today. I would like to provide you with an overview of how I view coaching. To start, I primarily coach clients with goals or intentions that are focused on organizing time and priorities.

To me, coaching is a partnership built on trust. During the coaching process, I encourage clients to stay curious about the possibilities and what they can achieve. Rather than giving advice, I ask questions and maintain that my clients have the best answers for themselves. However, I like to focus on strengths and abilities to move clients forward with more clarity. We look at where we are, where we are going, and where we want to be.

I also help clients try experiments, learn the best ways to overcome challenges, and take time to celebrate accomplishments. Through coaching, we are able to clear some of that clutter - in thoughts, schedules, and on to-do lists - in order to narrow in on what is important. I want to ensure that clients are able to access time to thrive in a way that is meaningful to them.

I consider myself a thinking partner and an accountability partner with my clients. We take a look at needs, values, obstacles, and opportunities as a part of the process. I want my clients to learn, grow and gain knowledge about themselves so that they can expand their perspectives and create a new awareness about who they are and what they want. Ultimately, I view coaching as a way to empower clients to make the best decisions for themselves based on what they know.

This doesn’t have to be a linear process. In fact, exploration and finding new ways of thinking is encouraged. Part of the coaching process is learning more about what works and what doesn’t. I help clients evaluate the best course of action depending on their individual needs.

I help clients strategize ways to move towards their goals and intentions without feeling overwhelmed. I strive to bring clients that sense of calm by breaking things down and sorting things out. My hope is to help clients see things more clearly and focus on what actions can be taken - at their pace. I want clients to be confident in who they are and know that they have the capability and creativity to live the life they want to live.

Coaching in and of itself is a transformative process and doesn’t happen overnight - it is a process that takes time and effort. My goal as a coach is to empower clients to think about possibilities, move forward with more clarity, and create an organized life on their own terms.
