What Lights You Up?

Last month, I stood in a conference room filled with hundreds of fellow Returned Peace Corps Volunteers - and something in me lit up.

The energy, the stories, the shared values—it all reminded me how important it is to reconnect with the people and places that spark something deep within us.

For context, I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco from 2004-2006. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about my service. I get to share this honor with about 250,000 other volunteers who have served since the start of the Peace Corps almost 65 years ago.

In the midst of uncertain and chaotic times, this particular moment gave me some grounding along with a renewed sense of hope and energy - and I want that for you too.

The experience reignited three powerful truths I carry with me - and maybe you carry them as well:

Belonging – When you’re surrounded by others who share your values and experiences, it creates a deep sense of connection and trust.

🌍 Impact – Each person’s story reminded me how powerful we are when we come together. The ripple effect is real. Don’t underestimate it!

🔥 Purpose – When you're part of something bigger than yourself, it brings you a sense of meaning and fulfillment with more clarity.

So I ask you to reflect on these questions:

  • Where do you feel most connected?

  • Where do you feel the most alive and aligned?

  • What small actions are you taking that create real change?

  • What gives you energy to keep going?

Whatever it is—find what lights you up. Honor it and let it reignite that spark inside so that you can keep moving forward.
